Late Summer Northern Pike

40 inch Northern Pike by Ed McIntosh
Ed McIntosh has been fishing with us for 20 years and ironically this 40 inch Northern Pike Ed caught and released Monday is approximately 20 years old.

Ed's first vacation here this Northern Pike was probably only a few inches long warily watching for large Pike and Walleye out to eat her while ating every other fish she could to grow to the size she is now.

Ed's Northern Pike is the largest caught and released so far this year. Congratulations Ed!

Melissa and Mike's Adventures

Melissa's big Pike
Melissa and Dad are having a great time at Wilderness Island!  Melissa still has the biggest pike and walleye. We had a great trip kayaking up Long Time No See Um Bay. We passed two beaver dams and went as far as we could go.  We saw a mother bear and her cubs swimming to Sandy Beach Island. One more day to catch some big fish and see a moose.

Walleye Fishing Time of Year

Walleye Fly Fishing Ontario Canada
20" Walleye Fly Fishing - Dave Sweat
Spring Fishing for Walleye has been really great again this year. Lots and lots of Walleyes of nice size walleyes fishing this year and many large Walleyes. We even have guests doing well Fly Fishing for Walleyes like Dave Sweat with the 20 inch Walleye he caught on a green tone Deceiver fly.

Big Walleyes Fishing Ontario Canada
29" Walleye - Grant Sommer
Tony Sommer made me laugh a couple of days ago. Tony was logging in Walleyes in our Catch & Release log book. You can log in any Walleye released over 16 inches. Tony said he was only logging in the over 18 inch catch and release walleyes because he would be forever writing in the over 16 inch walleyes. Great to hear.

Then Tony's son Grant catches and releases this beautiful 29 inch walleye. A really great prime spawning walleye about 25 years old. A really nice fish and Grant has a great big smile.

29" Walleye - Bob Peopsel
Bob Poepsel also caught and released a 29 inch Walleye this past week. Here is Bob just before he released his great Walleye with his long time friend Jim Burks. Picture was taken by Jim's son Frank.

This really is a Walleye time of year but we do get a few Northern Pike and Jumbo Perch in with the Walleyes. Here are Tom Quaderer and John Blair with some of the Jumbo Yellow Perch they caught while fishing for Walleye. And Joe Aiello caught and released this nice 34 inch Northern Pike which is a very good size for this time of year.

Big, Beautiful Walleye Fishing at Errington's Lodge Ontario Canada

James Langhoff is a very avid fisherman back in his native Wisconsin and James really showed his fishing skills catching this Big, Beautiful 31 inch Walleye yesterday. This is James first fishing vacation here with his wife Lynn. They are vacationing here with their friends Eric and Sue Hansen who have vacationed with us before.
James and Eric went out to enjoy some evening Walleye Fishing and tied into this really great Walleye fishing up in Long-Time-No-See-Um Bay.
James has caught a lot of Walleyes but this is the largest Walleye James has ever caught. She is a picture perfect Walleye too with very clean lines and beautiful colours, and James released this great Walleye back into Lake Wabatongushi to continue contributing to great fishing for future generations. This Walleye is about 29 years old and a spawning female in her prime.
James used this spinner bait to catch his Walleye.

Another Big Walleye!!!

Mike Tomas caught and released this beautiful 28 1/2 inch Walleye yesterday. Biggest Walleye Mike has caught in his life. Mike and his proud dad Steve, who did the netting, smiling in the background, have been doing very well fishing for Walleyes with leaches on jigs.
Every once in a while a Northern Pike would bite their line and that is what Mike and Steve thought they had on, a larger Northern Pike, because it made lots of very hard runs before they could even see it. When this large Walleye came up they were speechless for a moment. Then they netted the Walleye and started yelling. Their other boat came over with Mary Tomas and Roberta & Lester Heckes to see what the commotion was. Roberta took a few pictures and they quickly released her back into Lake Wabatongushi to continue providing great fishing for future generations. This would be a prime spawning female Walleye about 24 years old and a little over 9 pounds. Great Fish, Great Fishing in Ontario Canada.

Black Bear with Baby Bear Cubs

Black Bear with three cubs Ontario Canada
Black Bear with 3 cubs on Wabatongushi Lake Ontario Canada
Bear and Babies makes four Black Bears scrounging our Wabatongushi Lake shoreline. Saw this mother Black Bear and her cubs wandering the shoreline today. The dragon flies and some of the may flies are starting to hatch and the mother bear is probably picking up as many of them as she can. The cubs are very small and probably still nursing. They also play a lot but don't let Momma Bear get too far away. Followed these Black Bears for about 1/2 an hour and got some pretty good video below.

We are well into our first week now, the weather has been great, and the Walleye fishing  and Northern Pike fishing has been awesome.

Looking forward to a great summer of Fishing, Wildlife and relaxing wilderness vacations.

Fly Fishing for Northern Pike in Ontario Canada

Fly Fishing for Northern Pike in Ontario CanadaFly Fishing for Northern Pike is exhilarating. Massive Flies and Massive Fish. Northern Pikes well know reputation for savagery has given Northern Pike the nick name "Fresh Water Wolves". Even a relatively small Northern Pike, around 20-24 inches, is quite a fight on a fly rod, and when you hook into large Northern Pike in the 30's or 40's inch range on a Fly Fishing Rod it is "Battle Royal".
Heavy-duty Fly Fishing gear is recommended for Northern Pike. Fly Fishing for Trophy Northern Pike in Ontario Canada Fly Fishing rods for Northern Pike should be 8 to 10-weight and a fighting butt is a really good idea. Heavy Fly Fishing Rods help cast the big, heavy streamers and flies used for Northern Pike. And the extra power helps control even a small to mid-sized Northern Pike when it's buried in dense weeds

Errington's Lodge in National Geographic

National GeographicNational Geographic's Digital Nomad, Andrew Evans visited our remote fishing, wildlife and wilderness vacation lodge in July of 2011 on his exploration of Ontario Canada. Dog NikitaAndrew had only an overnight taste of our wilderness adventures but his experiences here made his list of Ontario Canada favourites. Our dog, Nikita, is Andrew's favourite dog. We are Andrew's favourite place for wildlife viewing in Ontario. Andrew got some great video of a pair of loons with 2 chicks. And Andrew's favourite drink, the Classic Canadian Caesar pictured, was from us as well. Andrew did not have time to fish but wished he could have stayed longer. We love providing memorable wilderness experiences. Enjoy the video and article of National Geographic's Digital Nomad Andrew Evans adventures in Algoma Country on the train, and here at Errington's Wilderness Island on our website at"

Hope you are having a good winter and, like us, are anticipating a wonderful summer filled with exciting adventures in fishing and nature. We invite you to visit us in Northern Ontario Canada.
Bull Moose by Roger and Diane Reynolds
We are looking forward to another great summer of fishing, wildlife viewing and relaxing vacations in the wilderness of Northern Ontario Canada. It was a beautiful summer last year with great Walleye fishing. Northern Pike was good again last year and Jumbo Perch was exceptional in June and July. There were more sightings of Moose last year and our many Loons had quite a few pairs of chicks scattered around Wabatongushi lake. 2012 should be an exceptional year for Northern Lights as this is the peak year for the solar activity that provides the energy for the Northern Lights.
Black Bears also by Roger and Diane Reynolds
